Alfie Kohn nace en Miami Beach en 1957. Son muy abundantes sus escritos y conferencias sobre la enseñanza, la dirección de empresas y la educación de los hijos. Sus artículos en torno a los premios, los incentivos, las recompensas, han aparecido en publicaciones como la revista Parents (“The Case Against Gold Stars”) o la revista de negocios Harvard Business Review (“Why incentive Plans Cannot Work”). Recientemente Time ha dicho de él que es “probablemente el crítico más franco y prominente a la obsesión de los educadores por las notas [y] las puntuaciones en los exámenes”, mientras que Fortune le describe como “el crítico más mordaz de los incentivos monetarios”.
